It started with crazy deadlines at work. Then I got swept up in family obligations, sushi nights, celebrity gossip sites, bronchitis. Next thing I know, it’s mid February, more than two months into the new year, and I’ve read only (gasp!) TWO. BOOKS! Helllllp! I’m stuck in a groady, god-awful READING SLUMP.

I need to read BIG TIME. But how do I get my reading juices flowing again? Quotes, of course! Inspiring quotes that remind me of why I love to read, encouraging quotes that remind me–hello, reading is my thing!

So if you are suffering from a reading slump like me, here are ten quotes about reading that might just pull you out.

“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.”

― Anna Quindlen

“Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it’s a way of making contact with someone else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real.”

― Nora Ephron

“Reading is a discount ticket to everywhere.”

– Mary Schmich

“If you are going to get anywhere in life, you have to read a lot of books.”

– Roald Dahl

“Take a good book to bed with you—books do not snore.”

― Thea Dorn

“Literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.”

― Fernando Pessoa

“Wear the old coat and buy the new book.”

― Austin Phelps

“Reading for me, is spending time with a friend.”

― Gary Paulsen

“Never put off till tomorrow the book you can read today.”

― Holbrook Jackson

“Sleep is good, he said, and books are better.”

― George R. R. Martin

“Let’s be reasonable and add an eighth day to the week that is devoted exclusively to reading.”

― Lena Dunham
