Chances are you know Jim Gaffigan, the comedian who rose to fame with his “Hot Pocket” routine. (If you haven’t seen him do this routine, I highly recommend finding it on YouTube. It’s hilarious.) What you might not know about Gaffigan is that he also writes books. His first, Dad Is Fat, was a New York Times bestseller, as was his second, Food: A Love Story. I’m soooo keeping my fingers crossed that he writes a third!

Food: A Love Story is a hilarious collection of essays about everyone’s favorite subject: food. Who better to write this book than than the Hot Pocket king himself!

As a comedian who travels all over the world, Gaffigan has a lot to say about the subject of food. From oysters (“That is not how you eat something. That is how you overdose on sleeping pills.”) to Chicago deep-dish pizza (“Most humans stop after two slices, but I like to think of myself as a superhuman.”) to biscuits and gravy (or as Gaffigan calls them “cement”).
This is by far the funniest memoir I’ve ever read. Its LOL factor is off the charts. I recommend it to anyone who needs a good laugh or a good two-hundred laughs. Gaffigan’s take on food is hysterical, although I should warn you—you may never want to eat seafood again.
