Sorry, but I love girly books, and what’s the girliest book of them all? The Princess Diaries, of course! After all these years, I finally read the novel and it’s all I hoped it would be! I loved the characters, I loved the Manhattan setting, and most of all, I loved Mia, our geeky teenage heroine who discovers she’s a princess. Why did I wait so long to read this book?
The story begins as Mia Thermopolis faces a major major crisis: Her mom is dating her algebra teacher. Then, as if that’s not drama enough, Mia discovers that she is, of all things, princess of a small principality called Genovia. Greatest day of her life, right? Not for Mia. The whole princess thing causes even more chaos in her already crazy-chaotic life.
Told through Mia’s hilarious diary entries, this book had me cracking up from beginning to end. Mia is so likeable, relatable, and funny as are the bizarre, lovable bunch of supporting characters.
I’ve yet to see the movie, but I hear they got Grandmère all wrong. If you’re expecting Julie Andrews when you read the book, you’re in for a fun surprise.
If you like girly books that make you laugh, and you don’t hate teenagers (or royals), I definitely recommend this one!
